First Impressions

When the Classic Dress arrived, I couldn’t believe the softness of the linen, the bright but subtle color, and the quality of the garment. Son de Flor’s attention to detail was evident from the moment I opened the package. Even their eco-friendly wrapping and branding felt special.

I knew this dress was a special one from the moment I opened the box.

The Fit & Feel

The Classic Dress fits like a dream. I chose a size S (small) based on the “find your size” feature on their website. It feels true to size with a little extra room, which reassures me that this dress will be a staple in my closet for years to come. I could probably get away with an XS (extra small) for a more fitted look, but the added ease of a S allows me to move around without feeling too constricted. I do think the XS would be hard to get off and over my shoulders. The dress does feature an invisible side zip, which makes it fairly easy to take off.

There are so many elements to this dress that give it a simple, feminine feel I look for in everyday pieces. The full circle skirt, front darts, and large pockets are aspects I usually look for in slow fashion garments. A button placket allows the bodice to be both flattering and functional. It can be worn buttoned all the way for a more vintage feel, but I choose to leave the first button open for a more relaxed and modern look.

I was worried that I wouldn’t feel comfortable with the Peter Pan collar since that style isn’t something I usually gravitate toward, but it’s just the right size. The vintage element adds wonderful interest to the bodice without it being too much. The dress also features white facing at the sleeve cuffs as well as white facing at the hem (a signature Son de Flor element) that adds a beautiful yet simple detail.

This dress has been such a staple in my wardrobe in the short time I’ve had it. Whether I’m sewing at home, puttering around in the garden, or out running errands, I’ve found myself reaching for this dress again and again. I am in awe every time I put it on; it’s so classic and easy to wear. The linen and the color are a dream, too.

Styling & Versitility

I love a piece that is an instant staple in my closet, and this dress delivers. I’m very particular about any RTW item I add to my wardrobe, and I was hoping that the Classic Dress would be easy to style just as it is to wear.

How I plan to style the Classic Dress –

  • with my handmade August Tote
  • under thrifted and me-made jackets
  • with hand-knit wool cardigans and sweaters in the winter

I feel put together the second I put it on. The Classic Dress is available in a variety of colors, allowing you to style it for any season or occasion. You can preview all their color and fabric options on their site!

Why I Recommend Son de Flor

I’ve been an admirer of Son de Flor for years, so when this opportunity arose, I was excited for the potential of sharing their line of thoughtfully made linen garments with you. Here are just 5 reasons why I truly believe in Son de Flor as a ready-to-wear slow fashion brand.

1. They pride themselves on using natural fibers

As you might already know, I have an infatuation with linen. It’s easy to sew, wear, and is sustainable. Son de Flor prides themself in using natural textiles that are not only beautiful but good for the environment and you, too. Their OEKO-TEX® certified linen is antibacterial, breathable, and its strength assures that it lasts longer than most fibers.

4. They understand the classic styles of dresses

I am one who feels like dressing modestly as a woman is a lost art in our modern times. Son de Flor offers pieces that are modest, yet classic and feminine. They offer so much versatility in all of their pieces, so you can easily layer them to make any piece truly your own.
