3. Fabric Scissors

These fabric scissors are affordable and are essential to any sewer’s supplies. They’re a classic style that you’ll have in your sewing supplies for ages.

4. Dritz Seam Ripper

I had been using a cheap, tiny seam ripper for a while before upgrading. This one from Dritz is still small, but the grip on the handle makes it so much more comfortable to use.

5. Rotary Cutter & Mat

This walking foot is an affordable tool for those who wish to start quilting. It’s been a game changer for me and I can’t imagine quilting without it!

Basting pins have been handy for me in so many situations. I keep the pins handy so that I can use them for things from basting to pulling elastic through channels.

8. Heavy Duty Snap Fasteners Kit

These may not seem essential, but this kit is perfect if you’re looking to make bags or jackets that need fasteners. This little kit has everything you need to get started.

9. Pinking Shears

Pinking shears are a great way for a beginner to finish off seams. They stop the fabric from fraying so that you’re garments will last for years.

10. Tape Measure

Tape measures are essential for any sewist. I have one of these tape measures hanging from my ironing board, one in my sewing notions box, and one in my knitting notions pouch. You can never have too many!

11. Seam Guage

This is a “new-to-me” notion that I didn’t realize how badly I needed it until I used it. They’re inexpensive and provide accuracy in your project.
